When I tell someone I have huge cockroaches, describe some revolting scenario involving huge cockroaches, and they say "oh, you mean PALMETTO BUGS" as if that makes the situation not revolting.

Who cares about the difference? They do not belong in MY home and will all be treated the same. They will meet the lovely heel of my flattest shoe!

jojo: No, there isn't. "Palmetto bug" is a 'nice' name for the adult American Cockroach. Yes, they are big. Yes, they fly. Yes, they are disgusting. And yes, a Palmetto Bug is an adult cockroach. Google it.

In Texas we usually call them Palmetto bugs or Water roaches. While they ARE a type of cockroach, I do make a distinction - to me these are much, much worse. The smaller more common roaches are no fun, by any means, but these suckers will FLY AT YOUR HEAD! And yes, I've seen several coming up drains - including the tub. Where I'm NAKED. ~shivers~
