My mom does this all the time. She basically writes an email in the IM box before hitting enter, sometimes including "love, mom".

I totally do this, but thanks to this post I'm realizing how annoying it is, and have vowed to stop. New rule: three lines of text, max, then hit enter.

funny, I get annoyed when people hit enter too often. If you have one thing to say, just say it all together. I don't want to have the IM window blinking/beeping constantly because you hit enter every five words.

i believe IM are meant to be short.it is really irritating just to sit and wait for the person to complete the whole thing....i feel bored and start do something else....and to top it all if the person has slow typing speed it would not even seem like u r chatting wid someone...
