PEEVE ››
When people end a phone conversation with out saying "goodbye."
I used to think this was the sorta thing that only happened in movies, but my girlfriend does it ALL THE TIME!!! We'll be having a conversation and she'll say something like "I'm not sure, I guess we'll meet up later." And I'll respond with something like "Well, let's make a plan. I was thinking..." and after about 2 minutes, I'll realize she hung up when she was done talking. I feel like the cellphone companies need to bring back the dial tone to compensate for these people.

In retaliation to this, I point to the "Repetition of 'goodbye formalities' on the phone" peeve posted here. In an effort to avoid this truly infuriating scenario, I choose to skip formalities all together. Whats the point of formality between friends anyway?
— Matt's girlfriend
A simple 'bye' would probably suffice. To your point, Matt's Girlfriend, I get irritated when someone asks if they can try some of my food - of course they can! Just go for it! You're my friend, after all we've been through together, I think the sacrificing of a bite of my pattaya noodles should be implicit.

My pet peeve used to be when people hang up without saying good-bye in movies, because that never happens in real life. But now that it happens in real life, maybe it's not my pet peeve anymore.

i hate it when people are in a hurry and keep d phone as dey wanna save their balance..in case of a prepaid card.. or to avoid huge bills.. just hang up without sayin bye...1 rude!

Saying goodbye on the phone is not a formality. It is functional. You are letting the other person know that you are ringing off. Imho it's rude not to give notice of hanging up.

The guys at my work do this all the time. Very frustrating. I never know if I'm actually still talking to them or not!

My dad never says good bye or anything similar to it. He just hangs up. Very weird.
