People with no sense of geographical orientation
When people say something like "Come on UP and visit us sometime" and they live 600 miles south of you.
or:
"I think I'm gonna drive down to Nova Scotia this weekend."

This bugs me, too, but the directions are arbitrary anyway ...

My mother-in-law claims to have a very good sense of direction, and yet complains every minute that she visits us that she doesn't know where she is! How hard is it to figure out that the city is set up in a perfect grid surrounded by a circle of highway? Sometimes when I'm in the car with her, I think "Would I die if I jumped from the car right now?"

Technically it only makes sense when you're discussing things in terms of elevation. Re: north as up - go google a "South Up" map. It'll give you something to think about.

that's why I always say "come OVER" or "go over" . Over makes much more sense no matter where the person is coming from

Yeah, I do this all of the time, it drives my husband bonkers. But I own up to the fact that my sense of direction and orientation is total crap so no one is surprised.
