The assumption that, because I am an American woman, losing weight is the key to my happiness.

I'm in college and the book for my PE class just straight out asked if I was committed to losing weight. Not getting healthier. Not starting an exercise program. Losing. Weight.

It's just a mirror of our society at large. Not everyone needs to lose weight, by the way! Assuming as much is just plain rude and possibly harmful.

Since the U.S. weighs in with 74% of those over 15 years old considered overweight, it is not much of a surprise at all.

Try buying a wedding dress. Those pushy sales women are adamant that *you WILL lose weight*. the wedding industry pushes women to lose weight all for one day.
