I KNOW! So annoying, especially when they're customers you're serving in a store. It's insulting and demeaning.

It depends where the person saying it is from. A lot of people where I live call others "hun" all the time because they learned it from their parents. If it's how you were raised, it becomes habit. Of course, I'm from the south, so perhaps it's different elsewhere. People here don't seem to have problems with it...
